The Francis Crick Institute brings together over 100 research groups with the goal of exploring biological mechanisms. From molecules through to cells and full organisms, the goal of the institute is to discover how life works. And ultimately transform how we approach human disease. What kind research does the institute engage in?
The main driving of the institute is to answer “seven high-level science questions reflecting both major issues of interest in biomedical research and the current research strategies of its six founders”. According to the institute website, the are seeking to answer these questions:
- How does a living organism acquire form and function?
- How do organisms maintain health and balance throughout life and as they age?
- How can we use biological knowledge to better understand, diagnose and treat human disease?
- How does cancer start, spread and respond to therapy?
- How does the immune system know whether, when and how to react?
- How do microbes and pathogens function and interact with their hosts?
- How does the nervous system detect, store and respond to information and retain that information throughout life?

How do I get there?
The Francis Crick Institute is approximately 10 minutes away from the hotel. As you exit the hotel, turn left and head across the gardens to Mabledon Place. When you reach Euston Road, cross over to the other side and walk down until you reach Midland road on your left. Take this left and the Francis Crick Institute will be approximately 80 yards on your left.
