“Always a sincere welcome upon arrival.  The recent refurbishment of rooms is a tasteful mix of classic and contemporary, it works.  Surprisingly quiet area.”  (Single with shared facilities – November 2017) Due to the age of the building and the way it was originally converted to a hotel, all the rooms are different in shape and size.  We have kept and maintained as many of the original features as we could.  One rescue attempt of a beautiful fireplace with built-in retractable fire grate (have never seen one of these before), involved me having to climb behind the iron fireplace into the chimney!  Svetlana took some brilliant photos of me covered in soot!  Sadly, the grate was too brittle to leave on display.

“Though within short walking distance from St. Pancras and Russell Square area, Cartwright Gardens is an oasis of peace and quiet – so is the Crescent Hotel.  I had a very nice large room overlooking the gardens.  Good English breakfast.  In short I had a most pleasant stay” (Single en-suite – October 2017) We are very lucky with the location.  The local area is almost like a small village in a big city.  We have very little through traffic, we still have what would have been the original high-street with many independent coffee shops, restaurants and local stores.  4 large public gardens within 5 minutes’ walk (including the one right in front of the hotel).  But with 3 Underground stations and many buses also within 5 minutes’ walk, you can be in the ‘big city’ in no time.

“We loved our stay!  The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, and the fan (table top) was wonderful.  We would definitely come back again.”  (Double en-suite room – September 2017) We have table top fans in the rooms throughout the summer months.  We are not allowed to install air-conditional as the building is Grade II Listed.  The fans are available all year round, and can be asked for at reception.  The windows have stoppers so that they can’t be opened fully, but if you would like them unlocked for more fresh air, we can.

“Clean and comfortable rooms, central but quiet location, friendly and helpful staff. Keen price. Pleased that Crescent Hotel is environmentally aware – low energy light bulbs and recycling of rubbish.”  (Single with shower – February 2017)  As and when our already energy saving light bulbs go, we are replacing them with even more energy efficient LED bulbs.  We do recycle as much as we can.  Office and kitchen items are recycled as well as mixed recycling from the bedrooms.  Our housekeepers take a general rubbish and a mixed recycling bag with them when they clean the rooms daily.  They will collect, paper, card, cans and tins, cartons, glass and plastic separately for recycling.  I am currently looking into having our cooking oil collected for fuel and food waste for composting.  After 3 months storage, we also take what we can from lost property to the charity shop.
